The Child Development Research Center is seeking affiliate research faculty to help advance our mission of improving child care and education. We offer a diverse, dynamic environment that supports scientists seeking to impact the quality of systems that determine lifelong outcomes for individuals, families, schools and entire communities.

Requirements

If you are a faculty member interested in formal affiliation with the CDRC, you should have a demonstrated record of scholarship and empirical study related to child development and education. You should also have experience applying for funding (internal or external) to support research.

Responsibilities

Our affiliate faculty are designated as either Investigator, Scientist, or Senior Scientist, based on level of productivity and status. The Senior Scientist title is reserved for faculty that have earned tenure at the University of South Carolina, and have secured external funding to support research. Investigators are tenure-track faculty actively seeking external funding. Scientists will have served as a Principal Investigator or Co- Principal Investigator on a funded research project. 

Investigators/Scientists:

  • Actively collaborate with other affiliate faculty to engage in and produce empirical articles addressing topics relevant to Child Development and Research 
  • Participate in at least 50% of CDRC related events such as research colloquia and methodology workshops each year
  • Submit proposals for research funding opportunities to a panel of CDRC affiliate faculty for a mock review and feedback

Senior Scientists:

  • Actively collaborate with other affiliate faculty to engage in and produce empirical articles addressing topics relevant to child development research
  • Participate in at least 50% of CDRC-related events, such as research colloquia and methodology workshops each year
  • Submit proposals for research funding opportunities to a panel of CDRC affiliate faculty for a mock review and feedback
  • Serve as a mentor to Junior Scientists and other university faculty who show interest in becoming an affiliate faculty member
  • Serve on a research proposal review panel for at least two proposals per year for proposals related to the senior scientist’s area of expertise
