Types of Assistantships
Each of our academic departments (the Departments of Educational and Developmental Science, Leadership, Learning Design, and Inquiry, and Teacher Education) and many of our offices and centers offer graduate assistantships.
Our graduate assistants do a variety of jobs depending on their skills. The types of assistantships may include teaching as the instructor of record, assisting with instruction and support for classes, performing administrative work, performing data analysis, assisting with research, and supporting student services.
Assistantship Application Process
The College of Education at the University of South Carolina-Columbia seeks highly-qualified applicants for graduate assistantships. There is one common application for graduate assistantships in the College of Education. Once you are offered admission to a graduate program at the University, you are eligible to submit an application for assistantship.
By submitting an application, you will be considered for all current and future positions available for the semester you indicate, so add your application to the pool of applicants. You will be considered for opportunities that begin in the semester you indicate. If you do not receive an assistantship for the semester you indicate and want to be considered for a different semester, you will need to submit a new application for that semester. We encourage you to complete the Graduate Assistant Application Form to add yourself to the pool of applications.
