About

The Carolina Family Engagement Center (CFEC) is housed in the South Carolina School Improvement Council, in the College of Education. The Center is a Statewide Family Engagement Center (SFEC) funded by the US Department of Education, under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). It is tasked with promoting high-impact cradle-to-career family, school, and community engagement by providing quality training and technical assistance that builds the capacity of all stakeholders to engage in effective partnerships that support student achievement and school improvement.

Mission

To advance opportunity and high academic achievement for all students by providing families, schools, and communities with the training and technical assistance they need to develop robust partnerships and adopt effective family engagement practices.

Staff

CFEC is managed by our talented leadership, each with decades of experience with family engagement in South Carolina schools.

Liaisons

Our Liaisons coordinate implementation of the CFEC School Partner program at between 3-5 partner schools located in or adjacent to their assigned region. They also serve as the point of contact for requests for training and technical assistance, resources, and special projects for all districts, schools, families, and community organizations within their assigned region.

Advisory Group

CFEC’s Advisory Committee consists of a diverse group of individuals representing a broad range of education stakeholders as required of Statewide Family Engagement Centers under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Latino Stakeholder Advisory Group

This group evolved out of CFEC’s work with focus groups of Spanish-speaking families. in the fall of 2020 and meets periodically as needed to advise CFEC as it develops tools and trainings designed to meet the unique needs of these families.

Project Evaluators

The Research, Evaluation, and Measurement (REM) Center is an independent unit of the University of South Carolina College of Education and is the external evaluator for the CFEC project.
