USC Coaching Teacher Award of Excellence

In an effort to further develop and maintain positive relationships with our schools/districts, the University of South Carolina's Clinical Experiences division of Gamecock EdQuarters created a mechanism to recognize selected mentors with a Coaching Teacher Award of Excellence. The eligibility requirements and selection process, as well as the nomination process, are articulated below.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Coaching teachers must be USC Expanded ADEPT 4.0/Coaching Teacher trained.
  • Coaching teachers must have served as a USC-Columbia Campus mentor for at least one semester in order to be eligible for this award.

Selection Process

An appointed committee will review nominations to select the award winner(s). This committee will consist of at least one public school representative, a College of Education faculty member, and one representative from Clinical Experiences. The award will be presented to all recipients at their individual schools in coordination with building level administration during late spring.

Nomination Process

  • Any USC faculty/staff, school/district colleague, or previous intern may nominate a coaching teacher.
  • Nominations must be submitted electronically through this form no later than March 21, 2025.
  • Individuals who would like to nominate coaching teachers will need to do the following:
    • complete Part I (Candidate Information and Questionnaire responses)
    • complete Part II (Letter of Support) of the nomination process by requesting an additional letter of support from another education professional or former USC intern who has worked with the nominee.

* Please note that current teacher candidates may not nominate their current coaching teachers.

* The Executive Director for Student Services within Gamecock EdQuarters will contact the nominee's current principal to verify eligibility requirements.
