What is Florence?
We are the regional clinical campus for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia educating and providing opportunities for third and fourth year medical students. Established in 2014, our campus has office and educational space located in downtown Florence at the Francis Marion University Carter Center, along with two tertiary care hospitals, a large federally qualified health care center and multiple independent specialty practice offices that make up our exceptional clinical learning environment.
How to go to Florence
The Florence Regional Campus is capped at 20 students per class of the M.D. program at the School of Medicine Columbia. Students may declare their decision to attend the Florence Regional Campus as early as their M-I orientation, up until April 1 of their M-II year if spots are available. Students are chosen on a first come, first serve basis.
What Will a Student Experience?
Students who attend the Florence Regional Campus will gain invaluable clinical experiences preparing them for their next phase of medical education regardless of specialty, a closer relationship with clinical staff that leads to meaningful letters of recommendations, which translates into our students contending for residencies in the most competitive specialties.
