Sports Medicine Fellowship (Primary Care)

The mission of the Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program rests on four central pillars:

  1. Diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are actively recruiting people of all backgrounds to train with our fellowship program. We are striving to grow a sports medicine workforce as diverse as the athletes and weekend warriors who are our patients. We understand that patients are more likely to trust physicians who are like them and therefore will receive better care.
  2. Breadth of experience. Fellows are exposed to the breadth of primary care sports medicine through rotations and longitudinal experiences in a wide variety of topic areas. Fellows work with a broad spectrum of athletes at the high school level, the collegiate level and the professional level, giving them a real depth of experience in sideline coverage.
  3. Excellence in education. Learning and teaching within the fellowship covers the breadth of primary care sports medicine. Fellow-led didactics cover the full spectrum of the specialty. Fellows precept medical students and residents on rotation, guest lecture in the graduate-level athletic training program, and teach MSK ultrasound to community physicians.
  4. Evaluation and feedback. Fellows are encouraged to set learning goals at the beginning of fellowship and refine them as the fellowship year progresses. Feedback is solicited from the fellows so that changes may be made to strengthen the learning experience and improve the fellowship.

Our fellows are well prepared to practice in the setting of their choice after graduation, are highly regarded as a referral source for their primary care colleagues and are seen as leaders in the communities in which they serve.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
