About the Center
The SILC is a 6,355 sq. ft facility that features a multitude of training equipment, including three high fidelity mannequins that simulate real human functions and sounds; three mannequins designed to teach advanced cardiac life support, 25 Basic Life Support training mannequins, and more than 50 additional skills training tools.
The center features a 25-person large classroom and 12-person smaller classroom, both with audiovisual capabilities; a 10-12 person conference room; a practical skills training room; a BLS/ACLS training room; one functioning ICU patient room, one functioning Med/Surg patient room; and a realistic Operating Room, complete with a fully operational ventilator and Human Patient Simulator (HPS) mannequin capable of airway management capabilities, surgical procedures, and receiving medication therapy with realistic physiological responses.
Mission
The mission of the center is to provide a multidisciplinary learning environment whereby the incorporation of medical simulation teaching and interactive medical skills laboratory experiences are made available to all health care learners at the SOM and the VA. The SILC is focused upon providing state of the art simulation and learning for students, residents/fellows, and providers with a long term goal of developing inter-professional experiences.
