Presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who graduated within the last 10 years, and has already exhibited excellence and significant career contributions in his or her chosen field through clinical service, research, community involvement, and/or administrative leadership.

May be demonstrated by meeting at least two of the following criteria:

• Has achieved impressive early career accomplishments in a clinical, research, or administrative role
• Has demonstrated leadership abilities through holding a position(s) in an organization and/or professional societies   
• Has engaged in humanitarian services in their local community (civic organization, local/state government, church, etc.)
• Has shown the potential for leadership and/or distinction in the long-term
• Has demonstrated a continued commitment to the USC School of Medicine Columbia 

Presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who personifies exemplary dedication to his or her specialized field, has made insightful contributions to the health care profession or biomedical research, and has exhibited service to the community.  

May be demonstrated by meeting at least two of the following criteria:

• Has made a significant impact in his/her specialized field
• Has served a leadership role in relevant state or national professional societies
• Has played a key role in developing or advancing a new program or initiative in health sciences or biomedical research
• Has previously won a community, state or professional award for direct or indirect contributions to patient care, the community, or his/her profession
• Has produced significant research or publications bringing recognition to the individual or his/her institution

Presented annually to an alumna or alumnus who has exhibited significant leadership and accomplishments as a genetic counselor.

May be demonstrated by meeting at least two of the following criteria:

• Is a well-recognized leader in the field of genetic counseling
• Has led or been an integral part of building a genetic counseling program
• Has led or been an integral part of an initiative that advances genetic services or improves care for a patient population
• Serves as a strong advocate in her/his community for the genetic counseling profession
• Has demonstrated a continued commitment to volunteerism through involvement in professional organizations or continued service to patient populations
• Has earned previous recognition or awards as a genetics/genetic counseling professional

Presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who is at least 10 years out from graduation and who personifies exemplary dedication to his or her specialized field and has made insightful contributions to his or her profession.

May be demonstrated by meeting at least two of the following criteria:

• Has made a significant impact to his/her field through research and/or teaching 
• Has a national reputation in his/her field 
• Has achieved tenure at an academic institution
• Has actively served as a member of a leadership team (academic, clinical, professional organization, or corporate entity)
• Has earned recognition or awards from an employer, a state/regional/national agency, or professional organization(s)
• Has led or been involved with programs that improve the health of the community

Presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who is at least 10 years out from graduation and who personifies exemplary dedication to his or her specialized field, has made insightful contributions to the medical profession, and has exhibited service to the community.  

May be demonstrated by meeting at least two of the following criteria:

• Has served in a leadership role in local, state, and/or national medical societies
• Has played a key role in developing or advancing a new program or initiative, which resulted in improving care for a patient population
• Has previously won a community, state, or professional award for contributions to patients, his/her community, or profession
• Has produced significant research or publications bringing recognition to the physician or his/her institution

Presented to an alumnus or alumna who has exhibited extraordinary and/or enduring voluntary, non-compensated, national or global humanitarian efforts. 

May be demonstrated by meeting at least three of the following criteria:

• Has launched and/or led a humanitarian effort that was focused on supporting the underserved
• Has committed themselves to greatly impacting the health outcomes and/or well-being of those living in impoverished areas
• Has devoted his/her personal time to alleviating suffering and/or promoting human welfare
• Has served as an inspiration to colleagues and future healthcare professionals through their dedication of supporting those most in need
• Has established and/or led a sustainable program that has positively impacted or benefited the community as a whole

Presented annually to a non-graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia who demonstrates significant contributions to the educational mission of the school and its Alumni Association.

May be demonstrated by meeting at least two of the following criteria:

• Provides support of medical and graduate education
• Has the desire to leave his/her own legacy at the USC School of Medicine Columbia 
• Exhibits a personal connection to the USC School of Medicine Columbia 
• Has demonstrated a continued commitment to remaining engaged through exemplary service and/or volunteerism
