Congratulations on getting your first month under your belt. By now you are feeling
more comfortable on campus and confident in your position. Now is a good time to move
past the basics and explore the full range of opportunities that are available to
you as a USC employee.
Take Action
Now that you have received your first paycheck, it is a good time to go into Employee Self Service and take care of some important housekeeping items.
Check the Accuracy of Your Pay Stub
Log into Employee Self Service. On the homepage select the "Payroll" tile. Then select the "Paychecks" tile. By
clicking on your check date you will be able to see your electronic pay stub and the
details of your paycheck.
Elect to Receive Your Annual W2 Form Electronically
From the "Payroll" tile in Employee Self Service you can sign up to receive your W2 Form electronically. Select the "W2/W2c Consent" tile to provide your consent. Once you have given your
consent it will remain in place from year to year, unless you return here to revoke
it. When your W2 Forms are available each year, you will be able to access them through
the Payroll tile on Employee Self Service.
Elect to Receive Your Annual Form 1095C Electronically
The Form 1095C is another important tax document that you will receive each year.
You can sign up to receive your 1095c Form electronically. To give your consent, start from the Employee Self Service home page and select the "Benefit Details" tile. Select the "1095C Consent" tile
to receive this important document electronically each year.
Keep Your Personal Information Current
From the Employee Self Service home page select the "Personal Details" tile. From here you can review and update
your home and mailing addresses, your contact information, your ethnicity, your veteran
status, and your emergency contact information. You can also provide voluntary self-identification
of a disability.
You should review and update your personal information in Employee Self Service in the "Personal Details" tile on a regular basis, particularly if you change address
or experience a significant life event.
Finalize Your Annual Performance Expectations
Review and finalize your annual goal setting document with your manager. Staff should
receive a completed EPMS Planning Stage during the first month of employment.
Onboarding Survey
Keep an eye out in Employee Self Service. Around 45 days of employment, an onboarding survey tile will be available. You will
have 30 days to reflect on your onboarding experience. Let us know how we are doing.
Additional Action Items for Faculty
Attend your first New Faculty Academy Session
All first-year full-time faculty members on the USC Columbia campus are eligible to
participate in the New Faculty Academy. NFA is a cohort-based program that offers a series of monthly workshops and gatherings
throughout the academic year.
Identify a Mentor in Your Department
A mentor will be able to provide you with guidance and support and provide feedback
on your scholarly efforts, particularly in teaching and research. They should meet
with you regularly and help you understand the policies and procedures in your academic
department and school or college.
Review the Center for Teaching Excellence Website
The CTE offers Teaching Resources that provide valuable tools to help with preparation, teaching, and course assessment.
