Health care is a business. To grow pharmacy services and improve patient care, pharmacy leaders must be knowledgeable not only in clinical skills and science but also in management, administration, marketing and more.
The Business & Entrepreneurship (B&E) program is available to students in the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of South Carolina. Participants gain core business knowledge and pharmacy-specific training to increase competitiveness in the job market.
This program is ideal for students who have an interest in:
- Pharmacy ownership
- Pharmacy management or administration
- Entrepreneurial careers and new business models
- Developing innovative solutions to emerging health care challenges
- Increased competitiveness in the pharmacist job market
Program Structure
The B&E program consists of required core components and elective components. It is structured to allow pharmacy students the flexibility to fulfill program requirements while progressing through the pharmacy curriculum. The program is delivered through classroom learning, workshop activities, and hands-on opportunities to apply students’ knowledge and develop skills.
Graduates who complete the B&E program receive a certificate and acknowledgment at the College of Pharmacy Convocation ceremony.

Eligibility
Interested students are encouraged to sign up for the program in the spring semester of their first professional (P1) year to ensure that they remain on track to complete requirements. However, students may apply to the program Spring semester of their second or third professional years (P2-P3.) Some core requirements may be completed during the pre-pharmacy curriculum and will be transferred for credit if completed within five years of starting the Pharm.D. program.
Interested students must complete an initial application for acceptance into the B&E program. Applicants will also be required to submit a letter of interest detailing their career interests and goals. Students, faculty and staff can find additional information on the KPIC Intranet page.
