Check Back Spring 2025 for Information on Next Symposium
The First-Generation Symposium at USC is a collaborative event that unites faculty,
staff, and graduate assistants. Its purpose is to explore and implement strategies
that cater to the unique needs of our first-generation students. This event is a proud
joint effort with the Center for Teaching Excellence, GARNET, the First-Generation
Center, Office of Access and Opportunity, and TRIO Programs.
First-Generation students enrich our campus with their unique viewpoints, but they also encounter specific challenges. They often have to learn new study skills, manage finances, and decipher college jargon, all while balancing more than just their academic responsibilities. With limited financial resources and family support, the path to success can appear intimidating.
At USC, we are dedicated to assisting these students in overcoming these obstacles and flourishing in their academic pursuits. The First-Generation Symposium is a reflection of this dedication. It serves as a platform for collaboration, creating a comprehensive support network that enables our first-generation students to excel.
Details about the next symposium will be released Spring 2025. We look forward to seeing you there!
