Background
Brett Stevens serves as an Academic Success and Bar Preparation Instructor and the Co-Director of the Academic Success Program. She teaches courses that help prepare students for the Bar Exam and leads workshops and other programming to support success in law school.
Prior to joining the faculty, Stevens practiced law in South Carolina for over seventeen years. She began her legal career at the South Carolina Supreme Court where she served as a Staff Attorney for seven years. She then started her own law firm where she primarily practiced in the areas of family law and appellate advocacy.
While operating her own firm, Stevens organized a nonprofit organization, the Palmetto Center for Children’s Legal Access, with the primary mission of providing low-cost Guardian ad Litem services to indigent parents in contested custody cases. She continues to advocate for access to the family court system for indigent litigants and hopes that AI will help bridge the gap in access to justice.
Stevens was admitted to practice law in South Carolina in 2006 and in the District Court of South Carolina in 2015. She is an active member of the South Carolina Bar. When she is not working, she is hanging out with her son, on the tennis court, and/or reading a novel.
