Taxpayer Assistance Program

The Taxpayer Assistance Program (TAP) at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law serves as a crucial resource for residents of South Carolina who need help filing their taxes or who are involved in tax disputes with the IRS, particularly those who may not have the financial means to afford legal services.

The Taxpayer Assistance Program at USC Rice School of Law houses the Tax Clinic and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

For taxpayers who have a dispute with the IRS, the Tax Clinic offers representation in audits, administrative proceedings, and in the U.S. Tax Court and other federal courts. We help with disputes of law as well as collections issues.

Each year in February and March, student and attorney volunteers prepare tax returns free-of-charge through the VITA program.
