Marc Brown

Dr. Marc Brown began his career as a police officer in the Charleston Area of South Carolina for approximately 14 years. While active as a police officer I was a Narcotics Detective, Intelligence Investigator, Patrol Corporal and Community Outreach officer. While working as a Narcotics Detective, he obtained a master’s degree in criminal justice from Charleston Southern University.

He has received several awards and has been recognized for his work ethic and dedication during his active law enforcement career. In 2007, he was named Deputy of the Month by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. In 2008, Marc was granted the Award of Merit from The Fraternal Order of Police. In the same year, he was named Officer of the Year by both the Hanahan Police Department and the Hanahan Exchange Club. In 2016 Marc received the Special Recognition Award from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office for my role during a sexual assault investigation that linked the defendant’s DNA to a 12-year-old criminal case. The Charleston City Police Department honored Marc in 2017 with a Special Recognition Award for his actions during an active shooter incident. Marc is also black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Marc worked for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) for approximately 5 years as a Physical Technique’s Instructor. He completed my Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Organizational Development from Grand Canyon University in 2021. His doctoral research on the relationship between leadership and patrol officers’ work performance. Marc is enthusiastic about using my academic and practical skills to improve trust and safety between police and communities they serve. In May 2024, he joined the Excellence in Policing and Public Safety Program as the lead instructor.
