Background

Georgy Shukaylo joined the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management in August 2026 as an assistant professor in the David and Nicole Tepper Department of Sport and Entertainment Management. His scholarship lies at the intersection of sport economics, finance and analytics, using economic theory and quantitative methods to examine how athletes, teams, leagues and governing bodies respond to incentives, policy changes and competitive pressures.

His work spans professional and college sports, with particular interests in labor markets, sports betting, league structures and financing. Current and past projects address Title IX compliance, name, image and likeness, college football labor markets, international athlete recruiting and NCAA policy changes, along with strategic behavior and decision-making in basketball, soccer, hockey, mixed martial arts and biathlon. His peer-reviewed work has been published or is forthcoming in the Journal of Sport Management and the International Journal of Sport Finance, and he has presented at sport management and economics conferences across the United States and Europe.

Shukaylo earned his Ph.D. in sport management in 2026, completing a dissertation focused on economic and policy dynamics in U.S. college athletics. He also holds master’s degrees in economics and regional planning and bachelor’s degrees in sport management and operations and information management. His interdisciplinary background informs a research and teaching approach that combines economics, finance, data analysis and policy. At the College of HRSM, he teaches sport and entertainment business and finance, covering topics such as budgeting, debt and equity financing, facility financing, public-sector sport finance and financial issues in professional and college sports.
