Training and Development

This area focuses on continuous learning and skill-building through a robust calendar of monthly trainings, workshops and an annual professional development conference. Key offerings include AI and emerging technology updates, needs assessments and cross-functional collaboration. The initiative empowers faculty and staff with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in a dynamic academic and professional environment.

Register for Training and Development Opportunities

This workshop provides an overview of the QSOC+ review process and university requirements for online courses. Faculty will learn how to align course objectives, learning activities, and assessments with USC Quality Standards for Online Courses, helping them prepare for successful course review and continuous improvement efforts.

Presented by Christopher Harris, this session encourages faculty and staff to explore practical and innovative uses of AI technologies in their daily work. Through discussion and shared experiences, participants will discover new ways to improve efficiency, creativity, and productivity.

This informal learning opportunity allows faculty and staff to share their research, expertise, professional experiences, and personal passions with colleagues. Each session features two presenters and provides a space for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and personal growth.

This workshop provides practical guidance for supporting students with disabilities and implementing accommodations effectively. Participants will learn communication strategies, review real-world accommodation scenarios, and explore ways to foster accessible and inclusive learning environments where all students can succeed.

Facilitated by the USC Office of Environmental Health and Safety, this certification course teaches participants how to respond confidently during medical emergencies. The training combines classroom instruction with hands-on practice and requires full-day participation to receive certification.

This monthly networking event provides faculty and staff with an opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen professional relationships. Participants can engage in meaningful conversations while helping build a supportive and collaborative HRSM culture.

This faculty-focused session supports ongoing professional development through collaborative discussions and shared learning experiences. The workshop encourages participants to exchange ideas and explore innovative approaches to teaching and student engagement.

Designed for faculty teaching online courses, this workshop focuses on creating effective learning activities and assessments that support student success. Participants will also examine accessibility best practices that help ensure courses are inclusive, compliant, and aligned with quality standards.

This specialized training equips faculty and staff with skills to recognize warning signs of student distress and respond appropriately. Participants will learn how to engage in supportive conversations, connect students with resources, and contribute to a caring campus community.

Take a break from the demands of the semester and celebrate fall with fellow HRSM colleagues. Participants are encouraged to bring their own pumpkin while supplies are provided, creating a fun opportunity to relax, be creative, and strengthen workplace relationships.

Join colleagues for coffee and conversation in a welcoming environment that encourages collaboration and connection. The event helps strengthen relationships, build community, and support communication across the college.

This final AI Café session of the semester provides another opportunity to explore emerging AI technologies and discuss practical implementation strategies. Participants can learn from colleagues and discover new ways to use AI tools to support their work.

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at one of Columbia's premier sports and entertainment venues. Participants will learn more about venue operations while connecting with colleagues and gaining insight into an important industry partner.

Facilitated by Erica Elbery, this wellness session offers participants an opportunity to relax and recharge during the busy end-of-semester season. Through yoga and meditation practices, attendees can reduce stress and focus on personal well-being in a supportive environment.

The final Coffee & Conversations event of the semester provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to reflect, connect, and celebrate their achievements together. Participants can enjoy meaningful conversations while strengthening HRSM's sense of community.

Faculty and staff are invited to support the Gamecock CommUnity Shop by volunteering for a two-hour shift during the week. This service opportunity allows participants to give back to the Carolina community while supporting a valuable campus resource during the holiday season.

Led by Jasmyn Herman, Fitness Fusion provides an energetic and engaging way to conclude the semester. Open to all fitness levels, this wellness-focused event encourages participants to relieve stress, stay active, and prioritize personal well-being before the holiday break.
