Background

Patricia Chambers, an accomplished business professional and educator with a robust background in communication, marketing, and writing, joined the Department of Retailing at the University of South Carolina in summer 2024. She holds a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, an M.P.W. from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. in English from the University of Notre Dame.

Chambers brings her management experience into the classroom to fully prepare students for their first day on the job or internship where they learn to write, collaborate, and present with confidence. She is dedicated to inspiring future managers to lead their teams with diplomacy and care.

As an assistant teaching professor at Bowling Green State University for a year prior to joining USC, she taught effective business communication while serving on numerous faculty committees. Her innovative, equity-based teaching methods qualified her for Active Learning Certification with their Center for Faculty Excellence.

Her extensive teaching career includes her role as a professor at Marymount California University, where she taught a wide range of business communication and marketing courses. She applied immersive, low-stakes/high-stakes pedagogy and developed real-world marketing projects that connected students with university athletic departments. Her leadership in faculty senate roles and curriculum development significantly contributed to the academic community at Marymount.

Dynamic pedagogical training through the California Acceleration Project with Long Beach City College and Pasadena City College has empowered her to create engaging courses where students are encouraged to find their voice in a supportive environment. She has a specialty in scientific business communication and academic writing from her work with several graduate programs, including the Master of Quantitative Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles.

In addition, Chambers has a wealth of knowledge in marketing and management from her work with large international and regional law firms. She strategized business development plans and managed extensive marketing activities, demonstrating exceptional skills in business development and client relations.

Chambers' commitment to education and professional development is evident through her numerous certifications and memberships, including the Association for Business Communication and the National Council of Teachers of English.
