Bio
William P. Kreml is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science at the University of South Carolina. Kreml served as vice-chair of the Political Science Department for two and one-half years in the early 90's and was Interim Chair of the Department in the summer and fall of 1993. Kreml received his J. D. degree from the Northwestern University Law School in 1965 and his Ph. D. in political science from Indiana University in 1972. Kreml is the author of nine single authored, non-edited books along with a number of articles and chapters in the sub-fields of American Government, Constitutional Law, and Political Theory. Kreml won the Educational Foundation Research Award in 1985. He is the creator of an original political philosophy known as the Natural Left, it being based on psychology rather the traditional theories that are largely based on economics. Kreml taught courses in the above sub-fields from 1971 until his retirement in 1996, continuing to teach individual classes until 2008. He was visiting professor at The University of Peking in the fall of 1994 and again in 1997. Kreml won the Mortar Board Teaching Award in 1996.
Research
Kreml was the principal drafter of the charter, or constitution, of the national Democratic Party, this being the first constitution of a major political party in American history.
Kreml ran in selected presidential primaries as a Democrat in 1984, 1992, and 2000.
Kreml finished second in the Green Party presidential primaries in 2016.
