Joseph F. Rice School of Law

Taylor Crampton

Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?

I attended Admitted Students Day and I was blown away by everything USC Law had to offer – Pro Bono opportunities, journals, externships, clinics, clubs, classes, the list goes on. USC also has an incredible alumni network throughout South Carolina and the entire Fourth Circuit that I knew would help me with the postgraduate job search.

What advice would you give a first-year law student?

Make friends that encourage and support you, and be nice to everyone! You spend a lot of time with the people in your section, and I can’t count the number of times my classmates helped me comprehend difficult doctrinal topics, shared their study resources, or stayed late with me to do practice questions. Also, take advantage of your professors’ office hours – it can feel intimidating at first, but they genuinely want to help you and get to know you. They’re the ones writing and grading exams, so they’re the best people to set you up for success in their classes!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of being selected to serve as Editorial Staff for South Carolina Law Review. I was totally new to legal writing when I started 1L and with a lot of hard work, dedication, and citation practice, my skills grew leaps and bounds over the course of a year.
