Thomas Alexander

Originally from Statesville,  North Carolina, Thomas Alexander received his Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill and his MA in Spanish Literature from UNC-Greensboro in 2018. After a long career in  paper, petroleum and insurance industries, Thomas taught Beginning Spanish at Campbell University, UNC-Greensboro, and is currently a Senior Teaching Assistant at USC where he has taught World Literature, and Beginning and Intermediate Spanish. His areas of interest are mining literature, 19th and early 20th century jungle narratives, and the Irish martyr Roger Casement. He has presented papers on La Vorágine, by José Rivera, and Foucault´s counter to pastoral power. His is interested in the intersection of race, extractivism and masculinites in late 19th and early 20th century world literature.

His most recent publication is: "Writing the Unspeakable: Horror and Desire in Roger Casement’s Black Diaries, Ricardo Eustasio Rivera’s The Vortex, and Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness" in Zanzalá
