Stephanie Hunter is a forensic social worker of over 20 years and specializes in criminal indigent defense where she serves as a Capital Mitigation Specialist in both state and federal courts. Her professional range includes working capital cases at pre-trial, trial, post-conviction and clemency stages. Her research interests include the intersection of neuroscience, social science and the criminal justice system as well as analyzing policies that have maintained the racial and economic disparities that exist within the United States penal system. Stephanie teaches both foundation and advanced direct practice social work classes. She also teaches Human Behavior in the Social Environment, Research Methods, Social Welfare Policy and Forensic Social Work.

Stephanie is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a Master of Social Work. Stephanie earned her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina.
