The overall goal of the Oceans and Human Health Center on Climate Change Interactions (OHHC2I), Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Project is to better understand the role climate change may have at enhancing the growth of HABs and the toxins they may produce. The HAB project fully supports the overarching goals of OHHC2I and the Aims for assessing the effects of climate change through alterations in temperature, salinity, pH and biogeochemical cycling of trace metals and microplastics. In addition the HAB project will focus on the growth and toxins production by cyanobacteria which may adversely affect drinking water, contact recreation and seafood safety exposure to humans, leading to increased human exposure to HAB toxins may increase inflammation and disease (e.g., Non Alcoholic Liver Disease) in humans.
