Biography
Rebecca Carney is the Children’s Justice Act coordinator for the Children’s Law Center at the University of South Carolina School of Law. She coordinates the South Carolina Children’s Justice Act Task Force, which is comprised of over 30 multidisciplinary child abuse professionals across the state. She facilitates accomplishment of the task force's recommendations and related training programs and projects for the Children’s Law Center.
Prior to joining the Children’s Law Center, Carney served as a quality assurance manager with the Center for Child and Family Studies at the University of South Carolina. The quality assurance team engages in a review of child welfare services to provide feedback and assistance in the development of a Continuous Quality Improvement Program, while assessing outcomes for children and families engaged in the child welfare system. As a part of the team, Carney was responsible for directing the work of the quality assurance reviewers by providing daily supervision and guidance, as well as serving in the role of a QA reviewer, team lead, and special project’s committee member.
Carney has more than 20 years of child welfare experience in South Carolina with a focus in foster care, adoption, and innovative program development and implementation statewide. She is certified in multiple evidence-based programs including motivational interviewing; the Strengthening Families Program; and Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Adoption Preparation and Recruitment Strategies. She began her career in the nonprofit sector and is a certified grant writer.
Carney received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and her Master of Social Work degrees from the University of South Carolina. She is a licensed master social worker.
