The Department of Statistics at USC has its home in LeConte College. Our program welcomes undergraduate students who declare a statistics major or minor and has also partnered with USC's Department of Computer Science to offer students options for specialized degrees in data sciences.
We have a robust graduate program for advanced statistics students who wish to earn
a master's or doctorate degree. Graduates of our program have obtained employment
in tenure-track positions, government agencies, pharmaceutical research and other
competitive industries.
Community for statisticians
Our department is known for its close-knit community. Students at all levels benefit from the support and mentorship of our expert faculty. Undergraduate and graduate students can participate in research as early as their first year on campus.
We also offer events to connect students with their peers and the wider field of statistics. Our Colloquia and Palmetto Lecture series present lectures by our faculty and graduate students, visiting academic researchers and members of the business community.
Exceptional faculty research
Our faculty members are leaders in statistics. Many faculty have been awarded research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation to pursue research in statistical and data sciences and have been important members of nationally-funded, large-scale collaborative projects over the years.
Faculty members have published in top journals such as the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Annals of Statistics, Biometrika, Biometrics and Annals of Applied Statistics. In addition, many faculty members have served on the editorial boards of leading journals.
Various members of our department have received international fellowships and lectureships. There are several who are elected fellows of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and the Instituted of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) as well as elected members of the International Statistical Institute. Others have garnered national awards such as the Mu Sigma Rho teaching award, among other accolades.
