SMARTSTATE Chair in Mathematics
The University of South Carolina invites applications for a SmartState Chair to direct
the SmartState Center for Data Analysis, Simulation, Imaging, and Visualization (DASIV)
in conjunction with the Williams-Hedberg-Hedberg Endowed Chair of Mathematics. This
is a tenured, 9-month, full Professor position in the Department of Mathematics. The
Center is co-sponsored by $2 million from the South Carolina SmartState Program established
by the South Carolina General Assembly in 2002 and by $2 million from the University
of South Carolina for a total endowment of $4 million. The primary appointment of
the Chair will be within the Department of Mathematics, College of Arts and Sciences.
Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Data-driven Modeling and Simulation
The Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina is inviting applications
for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in data-driven modeling and
simulation of complex systems. The candidate is expected to contribute to synergistically
bridging important developments in emerging mathematical foundations in Data Science
and Artificial Intelligence and numerical simulation of complex systems.
A successful candidate is expected to teach at all levels in the Department of Mathematics,
and to participate actively in the state-wide NSF-funded EPSCOR project on AI-enabled
Devices for the Advancement of Personalized and Transformative Healthcare in South
Carolina.
"Bridge to Faculty" Fellowship
As part of the new Bridge to Faculty Program at the University of South Carolina,
the Department of Mathematics seeks a faculty fellow in the field of Mathematics that
aligns with the expertise of existing faculty members to begin in Fall 2024. This
two-year program is intended to lead to a tenure-track position in the Department.
In keeping with the University’s commitment to “cultivating a more diverse, equitable,
and inclusive campus where every individual has the opportunity to flourish and thrive,”
the Bridge to Faculty Program is designed to attract and retain promising scholars
to the University of South Carolina with an emphasis on outreach to underrepresented
early-career scholars. Specifically, the program seeks to recruit early-career scholars
who, if successful during the program, will have the opportunity to transition to
a tenure-track faculty appointment at USC at the start of the 2026-2027 academic year
Postdoctoral Fellow in Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems
Professor Qi Wang’s group in the Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina (USC)
seeks applications for two Postdoctoral Fellow positions in applied and computational
mathematics, focusing on the modeling and simulation of complex systems. The successful
candidates will join the NSF-funded project "AI-enabled Devices for the Advancement
of Personalized and Transformative Healthcare in South Carolina (ADAPT)," contributing
to research in data-driven and mechanistic modeling as well as the simulation of complex
systems integral to the project. Research areas encompass modeling and simulation
of ion transport and fluid-structure interaction in complex geometries, phase separation
in complex fluids, tumor growth dynamics, phase-field modeling of solid dynamics,
and the development of efficient numerical approximations for thermodynamically consistent
PDEs.
Postdoctoral Associates in Data Science & Machine Learning
The Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina is inviting applications
of two postdoctoral associates in the area of mathematical foundations of data science
and machine learning in a broader sense. The candidates are expected to contribute
to synergistically bridging important theoretical developments in mathematics and
vibrant emerging mathematical foundations in Data Science/Machine Learning. A successful
candidate is expected to teach two courses per year on all levels in the Department
of Mathematics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics by the start date of employment,
a demonstrated potential for excellence in both research and teaching.
Due to the restriction of NSF RTG grant, candidates must be citizens, nationals, or
permanent residents of the United States or its territories and possessions.
FTE Instructor
The faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina,
Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track position
at the rank of Instructor.
The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic
year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval,
satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
