Creating a Healthy Campus
Healthy Campus is a way of life. It is the pursuit of health and wellness in mind, body and spirit. It is the individual person, the environment and the community creating a culture and atmosphere that encourages healthy choices, healthy behaviors and a healthy place to live.
It is a mission and vision born out of the desire to see USC as a healthy community to help our faculty, staff and students learn to thrive in life.
Learn how you can take advantage of leadership opportunities by joining the Healthy Campus Coalition.
Find It on Our Healthy Campus
A healthy campus doesn’t stop at the doors of the Student Health Center. You can find a variety of support programs on our Columbia campus.
The services provided by our family support network are free to faculty, staff, students and their spouses/partners. New parent welcome kits available upon request.
Student Health Services is a South Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition Community Partner. Members of the Carolina community who are nursing or pumping can visit any of our campus lactation rooms.

As of January 1, 2014, the University of South Carolina Columbia campus is completely tobacco free. Read our tobacco-free campus policy [pdf].
This policy applies to...
- All members of the Carolina Community. The policy applies to students, staff, faculty, visitors, vendors, contractors, etc. Repeat violators may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct or Human Resources.
- All forms of tobacco. Any type of tobacco is prohibited including cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, vaping devices, etc.
- All university property. Any type of tobacco is prohibited on USC leased, owned and controlled property, including parking structures and personal vehicles.
Carolina Community Enforcement
Enforcing the tobacco-free policy is everyone's responsibility. We encourage students and employees to politely and compassionately address violators and ask them to stop tobacco use on campus. Use our script [pdf] to speak to someone using tobacco on campus.
Supervisors on campus can utilize our supervisor toolkit [pdf] when speaking to faculty, staff or contractors about Tobacco Free at USC.
Tobacco Cessation
You can quit smoking with the right preparation and support. We offer smoking cessation programs and options for a healthier, tobacco-free campus.
- Gum, lozenges, patches and other nicotine replacement therapy options are available to buy at the Center for Health and Well-Being pharmacy.
- Get help with tobacco cessation by meeting with a Wellness Coach to assess readiness to quit tobacco through various motivational interviewing techniques and behavioral change strategies.
- Make an appointment through MyHealthSpace or call 803-777-6518.
