Changing Carolina Peer Leaders

Peer Leaders are undergraduate students from a variety of backgrounds and academic disciplines who have a passion for wellness and health education. Applications for the Fall 2024 cohort are open October 1st through November 1st!

What is CCPL?

Changing Carolina Peer Leaders (CCPL) is a student-driven group of peer health educators at the University of South Carolina. With support from dedicated staff advisors, CCPL’s mission is to advocate for a healthier campus by educating peers about mental health, healthy relationships, sexual health, and holistic wellness.

What We Do

Peer educators connect with the Gamecock community through classroom presentations, campus-wide outreach events, and collaborations with other student organizations. This on-campus employment opportunity is open to undergraduate students of any major and any level of prior experience with our content areas.

Content Covered

CCPL works with three content areas: Mental health, sexual health and healthy relationships, and holistic wellness. Students are encouraged to explore multiple content specialties during their time in CCPL.

  • Mental Health

Stress management, suicide prevention, and encouraging help-seeking behaviors

  • Sex & Relationships

Effective communication, bystander intervention, and STI testing

  • Holistic Wellness

Eight dimensions of wellness, body image, and self-care

Become a Peer Leader

Recruitment for our next cohort of paid peer health educators runs every Fall semester.

Undergraduate students of all years and academic disciplines are eligible to apply to join the next cohort of Changing Carolina Peer Leaders. All new peers are required to take a 3 credit hour training course, HPEB301, after joining.

HPEB301 meets on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 1:15-2:30pm. Once accepted into the program, registration for this course is mandatory for new peers.

All peers are expected to attend the weekly meeting held on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30pm during the academic year.
