The University of South Carolina (USC) promotes excellence in all aspects of its research programs. This includes upholding the highest standards in the ethical treatment and responsible use of animals on its campuses.
To this end, the animal care and use program at USC is accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC), is registered as a research facility with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and holds an approved Assurance of Compliance from the Public Health Service’s Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW).
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) meets on the first Thursday of each month. If this falls on a major University recognized holiday the meeting will take place the following Thursday. All proposals MUST be submitted no later than 5:00 pm on the deadline day (please see the schedule posted on this page). Any proposals submitted after this deadline will not be considered until the next meeting.
