SC Floods Conference Rescheduled

The Office of the Vice President for research will host a conference for researchers to share findings from their projects funded by the 2015 SC Floods Research Initiative on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Vice President for Research, Prakash Nagarkatti, to present webinar on inflammation

The webinar, which is free and open to all interested individuals, will be presented on Friday, October 21, beginning at 12:00 p.m. It will introduce the basic mechanisms of inflammation.

Graduate students, register today for the Grant Writing Basics Workshop

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to invite graduate students to a special Grant Writing Basics Workshop on Thursday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m. In this workshop, designed specifically for graduate students, we will discuss strategies for grant writing success, grant budget development and common mistakes to avoid when writing a grant proposal.

The Office of the Vice President for Research is accepting SPARC Grant applications until Wednesday, October 26. Required SPARC application workshops begin on Wednesday, September 7.

Office of Research seeks nominations for 2017 Breakthrough awards

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to open the nomination period for all three of our signature Breakthrough awards: Breakthrough Leadership in Research, Breakthrough Stars and Breakthrough Graduate Scholars. The Arnold School of Public Health professor will use funding to create the Center for the Study of Aphasia Recovery to better understand and treat the communication disorder in patients recovering from stroke.

New Carnegie Classifications List USC Columbia as an Institution of "Highest Research Activity"

As of February 1, 2016, the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education has fully adopted an updated system of classifications for colleges and universities. In the new classifications, the University of South Carolina Columbia has retained its place among the most elite doctoral-granting research universities.
