Mims, who has spent the past 24 years of her career at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina, earned her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in ’74. She returned to the College of Pharmacy to earn her Doctor of Pharmacy in ’96.
In her role at Prisma Health Tuomey, Mims has served as the clinical pharmacy coordinator, works with the antimicrobial stewardship team, evaluates patient medication regimens, and serves as preceptor for students during their clinical rotations.
She is also active as a volunteer in her hometown of Lake City, South Carolina where she is a founding member of the Meals on Wheels program, a board member for the Lake City Concert Series, and serves as vice chair for the Florence School District 3 Board of Trustees.
Mims is humbled by her selection as an Outstanding Alumni of the Year. “I look at the names who have received the recognition in the past, and it is quite an honor,” she says. “It’s important to be a caring individual and try to make a difference, to make the world a better place.”
"As a student, an alumnus and a professional in the field of pharmacy, Julia Mims has consistently demonstrated her commitment not only to our college and the profession of pharmacy, but also to her community,” said Dean Stephen J. Cutler. “As a leader for our students and to the students in her community, we are grateful for her devotion to serve others.”
