Background

Andrew Spicer is an associate professor of international business in the Sonoco International Business Department at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. He received his Ph.D. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and previously taught at the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Business at the University of California, Riverside.

Research

Dr. Spicer’s research and teaching focuses on the intersection of business and society in a global economy.  His research has examined privatization policies and outcomes in post-communist countries; the effects of national context and identity on managers' ethical evaluations and behaviors; the processes that lead to the spread of corrupt and harmful business practices across regions and companies; the perils and promises of entrepreneurship in the context of deep poverty; and the long-term evolution of corporate sustainability programs and strategies.

He has published articles on these topics in leading management journals, including  Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Business & Society, California Management Review, Industrial and Corporate Change, Journal of Business Ethics, Organization & Environment, Research PolicyStrategic Organization and the Strategic Management Journal. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Business & Society.

He teaches courses on globalization, international business and sustainable development.  He presently serves as Faculty Director of the undergraduate major in international business.
