The EPPS Program is committed to professional development for police leaders, which is why we are announcing the Command Staff Professional Development Initiative. In consultation with law enforcement professionals from South Carolina and beyond, and with subject matter experts, pedagogical specialists, and experienced instructional designers, this initiative will provide an in-depth exploration of a range of critical topics, equipping police leaders with knowledge and practical skills that they can immediately bring back to their agencies.
Upcoming Courses

January 8-12, 2024: Principles of Leadership & Management
Principles of Leadership & Management
The next Principles of Leadership & Management course will be held January 8-12, 2024. In this 40-hour course, participating police leaders will learn about observational leadership, ethical decision-making, transformational communication, adaptive learning organizations, agency culture, and strategic risk management, among other topics.
The ideal candidates are sworn officers who are currently command staff or command staff-eligible; have demonstrated experience working to enhance their agencies through policy, research, and/or training; are thoughtful and curious; and have informed perspectives about how best to advance the police profession. Cohorts will be diverse in geography, agency size and mission, and attendee experience and perspectives. All travel, accommodations, meals, and training costs will be paid by the School of Law.
Training and professional development offerings are designed in anticipation of offering both a graduate degree and graduate certificate. We are committed to making critical information easily accessible to South Carolina law enforcement leaders.
