Research Interests
Our research focuses on the connections between atmospheric chemistry with the environment and climate. Natural and anthropogenic activities, including volcano eruptions, fossil fuel combustion, and agriculture, have significantly altered the environment and climate due to the emissions and chemistry involving trace gases and aerosols. Our research aims to quantify the impacts of natural and anthropogenic perturbations on the chemistry and composition of the atmosphere and its ramifications for the environment, human health, and climate. We study a range of environments, from urban areas to polar regions, that have important ramifications for improving air quality to understand the connection between the atmosphere/biosphere system and long-term atmospheric chemistry/climate connections. Our research themes include: (1) reactive nitrogen and sulfur in a changing world, (2) atmospheric chemistry in remote environments, and (3) urban air quality and greenhouse gas emissions. This research often involves using novel stable isotope measurements and advanced instrumentation for high-resolution and/or high-density concentration measurements.
