The strength of our department derives from the extraordinary quality of our faculty, staff, and students. We lead the university in faculty awards for research, teaching, and service; and we serve more than 450 undergraduate majors and 160 graduate students. With your help, we can continue our joint mission of providing excellent teaching and conducting scientific research of the highest caliber.
One of the best tools for training young scientists is to provide opportunities for presenting and discussing current research findings. Our department supports a robust seminar series that brings nationally and internationally recognized scientists to present their work in Columbia to an audience open to every member of the department. We also encourage our undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to attend scientific conferences and present their own findings, offering awards to help cover travel costs.
All of these endeavors require financial support, and we are grateful for your consideration in helping us achieve our educational goals. We have numerous endowments that support our undergraduate and graduate students as well as critical departmental needs. These are some of the areas that need additional funding for the endowment to sustain the necessary level of support.
