Transfer Applicants

Ready to apply?

If you are a high school graduate who has attended another regionally accredited postsecondary institution and attempted one or more courses, regardless of credit earned, use the link below to apply.

Transfer APPLICATION

Required Materials

All transfer applicants must submit the following credentials:

  • Submit the transfer application by the deadline for the term you would like to enroll at USC.

  • All transfer applicants must submit a nonrefundable application fee at the end of the application.

For domestic transfer applicants, the application fee is $65.

For international transfer applicants, the application fee is $100.

  • Admissions decisions can be determined based on unofficial transcripts. Upload unofficial transcripts from each institution attended at the time of application submission.

Prior to enrolling in courses, you must submit official transcripts of all previous college courses attempted whether or not credit was earned and regardless of whether you wish to transfer any credit. An official transcript must be sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions from each institution.

Applicants with a Joint Services Transcript may receive up to six semester hours of credit toward the 30-hour requirement. Please note that coursework completed on a pass/fail basis or in remedial courses does not count toward the required 30 semester hours.

  • If you have completed fewer than 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of college-level coursework, you must meet both transfer and freshman admission requirements. In this case, an official high school transcript must be sent directly from the high school to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Application Review Criteria

  • Transfer applicants must have at least a cumulative 2.25 grade point average on a 4.00 scale. In addition, several colleges and programs within the university require higher grade point averages on all college work attempted and course completion with a specific grade. Visit transfer GPA requirements for requirements by major.
  • To calculate your transfer GPA, USC reviews all college-level courses you’ve attempted and the grades you earned, excluding remedial or developmental classes.
  • Your application may also be reviewed holistically, taking into account your recent academic progress, commitment to your education, and relevant life or work experience.

Transfer Credits

  • Discover how to receive USC credit for Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.

  • USC generally accepts nonremedial coursework completed at regionally accredited institutions with a grade of C- or better. Students with previous college credit can use the University Registrar’s course equivalency table to see how their courses may transfer to USC. We also recommend reviewing the Major Maps webpage for a list of courses required for your intended major.

Note that you must apply and be admitted to USC before an official evaluation of transfer credits can be completed. Some courses may not transfer to USC or may not apply toward your intended degree program.

If you do not see the course you are looking for on the course equivalency table, complete our Undergraduate Course Evaluation Request Form.

For details on transferring credit, refer to USC's Academic Bulletin.

  • South Carolina Technical College (SCTCS) transfer applicants can participate in reverse transfer credit. This option offers you the opportunity to transfer the credits you will earn at USC back to your SCTCS college to be applied toward the completion of an associate's degree. More information on the process will be provided to SCTCS transfer applicants once admitted.
