The Application Submission System & Interface for Submission Tracking (ASSIST) system is used to prepare and submit grant applications electronically to NIH and other Public Health Service agencies. Like other federal proposal submission systems, NIH Assist requires that all proposals be submitted by the university’s Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR). For UofSC, the AOR is the Office of Sponsored Awards Management. This means that primary investigators should coordinate closely with their SAM Team representatives to finalize and submit a sponsored award proposal through NIH ASSIST.
To ensure that your SAM Team representative has ample time to complete a thorough final “Institutional Review,” PIs must submit their proposals to the SAM Team at least 3 business days before the proposal submission deadline [pdf]. Submitting proposals more than three business days ahead of the deadline is preferable, and will allow your SAM Team representative to spend more time reviewing the proposal materials.
Submitting your proposal to SAM more than three days ahead is an especially good idea when the proposal will be submitted to the sponsor via NIH ASSIST, as NIH recommends proposals be submitted through ASSIST at least two days before the due date.
NIH Assist Support
When preparing a proposal for submission through NIH ASSIST, PIs are encouraged to refer to the NIH Application Guide for detailed information on proposal preparation, format, submission and other crucial steps in the development process. Visit the NIH Application Guide website to browse and search for the support information you need.
