About the Department
In the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences, faculty of the highest caliber provide students with education and research training in the pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences. Our faculty includes top researchers in areas such as cancer treatment, pharmaceutical chemistry, genomics, neuroscience and pharmacology. In centers such as the COBRE Center for Targeted Therapeutics, talented junior scientists are collaborating to develop new and more effective classes of drugs used to combat disease.
Extramural funding obtained by DDBS faculty supports state-of-the-art research on disease mechanisms, drug action and toxicity, the design and development of new pharmaceutical agents and the identification of new drug targets. Our scientific discoveries have a major impact on the health outcomes for residents of South Carolina and beyond.
