  Austina Wolverton

  I was awarded the Women and Gender Studies Certificate and I love having this background. I work at the university and part-time at a homeless shelter and the knowledge I learned in this program allowed me to be more compassionate, and it allowed me to be a better advocate for women and diverse backgrounds. I would not trade the experiences learning from absolute rockstars in their field or the incredible friendships I gained for anything.

  Amanda Masterpaul

  As a 2007 graduate from the WGST program, I was integrally involved with the Women's Well-being Initiative where I used Theatre of the Oppressed as a feminist intervention with local schooling partnerships and within the juvenile arbitration program. I recall taking classes with Lynn Weber and Deanne Messias, reveling in each critical conversation we had. I'm grateful for the WGST department because it opened pathways within the non-profit sector and in higher education. I am currently a Lecturer in the Women's and Gender Studies Program at Coastal Carolina University where I merge the disciplines of intersectional feminism, artistic activism, and social justice into my teaching, participatory research, and community-centered initiatives.

  Marcia D. Taylor

  The experience of being selected to participate in the Women of Color Leadership Project (National Women's Studies Association) was definitely facilitated by my enrollment in the Women's and Gender Studies graduate certificate program.  Earning the certificate has added depth to my social work practice, as well as to my current position in higher education, where I am training future social workers.
