Special Initiatives

The External Relations team partners with the College’s Development team as well as colleagues in Central Development and the Educational Foundation to manage and lead a comprehensive stewardship program to build trust and rapport with the College’s donors, alumni, friends, and other key constituencies.

As part of our commitment to engagement and collaboration, we regularly host a range of special events that brings together donors, faculty, students and the community. See the CAS Signature Lectures page and the Recognition of Excellence page for more details.

We strive to maintain connections with our alumni across the state and the nation.  We host various alumni networking events across the state that encourage comradery with the alumni of each region, including Columbia, Charleston, and other regions where our alumni may be.

The External Relations team manages the College’s relationship with its esteemed Board of Visitors. The Board of Visitors of the College of Arts and Sciences garners community and financial support to enable the college to progress along a broad range of activities, including funding research, creating endowed chairs, improving faculty salaries, attracting a larger number of more qualified students, and providing needed services to the state and nation.

The College maintains Alumni Councils in the greater Columbia, SC and Washington, DC areas. These fun and energetic groups serve as a bridge between alumni and the college. Meeting twice a year, the councils suggest and develop ways to encourage alumni to stay connected to the College of Arts and Sciences through programs, projects, communication strategies and other matters deemed appropriate by the council and the college. The Alumni Council also assists with mentoring students and identifying internships that are available to arts and sciences students.

We represent the College with individuals, community organizations, corporations, and government officials ensuring the College has a seat at the table in important community initiatives and conversations.
