Home Movie Day at The Nick

On Saturday, October 19th, from 10am to 2pm, Moving Image Research Collections is hosting the 2024 edition of Home Movie Day at The Nickelodeon on Main Street. This is our second edition in the post-pandemic era, and the theme for this year’s program is “Performance and Play.” Entrance is free – come and join us as we celebrate home movies and their makers! 

Fall Literary Festival with Walter Mosley

Join us Wednesday, October 23rd at 6 p.m. in the Campus Room of Capstone Hall for a Reading/Lecture, Q&A and book signing with our final Fall Literary Festival author, acclaimed fiction writer Walter Mosley! Seating is limited, so please register here.

Walter Mosley is best known for his mystery novels, including those featuring detective Easy Rawlins. But his 60+ books span multiple genres including crime, science fiction, literary fiction, political, young adult, nonfiction, instructional, and graphic novels.

South Caroliniana Library grand reopening celebration
We’re nearing completion of the renovation of the South Caroliniana Library, which opened in 1840 as the nation’s first freestanding academic library. Revisit this page for the most up-to-date information about all the grand reopening events, talks and tours we’ll be hosting to celebrate the majesty of this landmark on the Historic Horseshoe.

Fall Literary Festival
This year’s Fall Literary Festival begins on October 11 and features evening sessions with three authors: poet and USC alumnus Atsuro Riley, naturalist and SC native Drew Lanham, and children’s author and journalist Amina Luqman-Dawson. 

Home Movie Day
Come join us for Moving Image Research Collections’ Home Movie Day 2023, Saturday, October 21 at the Nickelodeon Theater. Drop in any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to view home movies celebrating this year’s theme: Women Behind the Camera.

Creating and Restoring the South Caroliniana Library
You’re invited to watch this University Libraries and USC Press conversation about the history and restoration of the South Caroliniana Library with author John M. Bryan, architect Jay White and University of South Carolina archivist Elizabeth West. When it was opened as the South Carolina College Library in 1840, it was the first freestanding academic library in the U.S. Today it is a premier research archive and special collections repository for the study of South Carolina and the American Southeast.
