Research Workshops

The Office of Undergraduate Research hosts a series of professional development workshops for all undergraduate student researchers over the summer. All undergraduate researchers from all disciplines, including USC students and those visiting from other institutions, are welcome to participate.

Workshop details are listed below. There is no registration required to attend these sessions, and all undergraduate students conducting research on USC campuses over the summer are welcome to participate.

Case studies will be presented to provide a framework for discussion of common ethical questions in research.

Creating Your Research Poster

Presented by Dr. Lauren Clark, Director, Office of Undergraduate Research

Students will learn how to write a research abstract, as well as how to create an effective research poster.

Highlighting Your Research Experience in Professional Documents

This interactive workshop will introduce integrative learning and engage students in reflective thinking and writing exercises about their research experiences. 

Applying to Graduate School

Presented by a panel of Faculty and Graduate School Staff

This panel discussion will feature a discussion of the graduate school application process, with emphasis on how to select a graduate program and what to consider when looking for a graduate advisor. Common parts of application packages will be discussed, including research/personal statements, resumes and recommendation letters. 

Preparing for Graduate School

Presented by a panel of Graduate Students

In this workshop, a panel of graduate students will discuss reasons to consider graduate school, MS vs. PhD programs, and how to be a competitive candidate for graduate school. This workshop will also explain options for funding your graduate education, including assistantships and fellowships.
